Mayo Mayhem is Ireland's No 1 Windsurfing Wave sailing competition. Mayo Mayhem is a fun and welcoming windsurfing competition. We like to think that Mayo Mayhem is the most fun and welcoming windsurfing competition in the world,  which just also happens to have epic conditions .Mayo Mayhem is a ranked IWA event , in 2023 it  also became a two star ranked IWT / PWA event .

It was set up in 2017 by Bull Island Windsurfers as a not for profit competition with the aim of giving windsurfers a great reason to meet up and have some fun while pushing their windsurfing limits. The date for the competition is usually the last weekend of September which is the same weekend as the Battle for the Lake Kite and Music festival. The weekend is a 3 day event from Friday to Sunday (i.e. with competition starting on the Friday) If there are no suitable conditions then the event will be rolled over to the next windy weekend but will also  be a 3 day event fridayto Sunday.

Mayo Mayhem event base is on Achill Island. The option is open to compete on any one of Mayo’s finest beaches from Bellmullet in north Mayo to Louisburg further south depending on whichever location can provide the best wave sailing conditions. With such a variety of location to choose from there is a strong possibility of competing in both Port and Starboard conditions. There are nine super beaches to choose from all within a 5 to  80 minute drive, with a huge variety of conditions to choose from. We can have side on to super clean side off down the line wave sailing. The conditions range from light float and ride to epic Red Bull Storm Chase  conditions.

Mayo Mayhem has two fleets. The Gold fleet for experienced competitors and the Silver fleet for intermediate and beginners. Mayo Mayhem is open to men and women from any country as long as they have windsurfing insurance. (To be included in the Irish windsurfing Association rankings please check the Irish Windsurfing Association rules section for eligibility criteria).
